Detailed itinerary

Day 1: On your way for gorilla tours

You will be met, welcomed and picked up by our tours representative who will transfer you to Kigali for a city tour. You will visit the genocide memorial. The Kigali Genocide Memorial was launched in April 2004 on the 10th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. This Centre is well built on a place in Kigali where over 250,000 people were buried after genocide. These graves are obvious assistant inflections of the cost of ignorance in Africa. The site is an enduring monument to   fatalities of Rwanda genocide. It is a place for people to mourn for their loved ones that yielded to the genocide. It contains an eternal exposition of the Rwandan genocide and a display of other genocides around the world. You will then transfer to volcanoes National park or a nearby lodge.

Day 2: on your way to gorilla trekking in Rwanda’s Park Volcanoes

Have your breakfast, carry your packed lunch and gorilla trekking gear and then report at the ORTPN offices for registration and briefing. Drive to the Volcanoes National Park for a memorable gorilla trek. Gorilla trekking may sometimes seem to be strenuous so trekkers are required to be fit because it may take from 2 hours to 10 hours. You may have a picnic lunch along the trek if trekking takes longer hours. An encounter of the gorillas after a tiring trek is rewarding!  You will return to the lodge.  If gorilla trekking ends early, you may visit the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo at an extra cost.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking or Dianne fossey grave trek or second day of gorilla trekking

Have breakfast and report at the ORTPN Office for registration and briefing, thereafter drive to the Volcanoes National Park for the Golden Monkeys trekking or Dianne Fossey grave trekking or a second day of gorilla trekking. The choice depends on your budget. Golden monkeys are one of the rarest primates in Africa.  It is now believed that the only feasible population of these monkeys is left in the Virunga Volcanoes National park and Mgahinga National Park in Uganda.  A smaller population may continue living in the Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southern Rwanda but this has yet to be confirmed. The golden monkey is a disparate species of guenon – Cercopithecus Kandti and is ubiquitous to the Albertine Rift.

The Dian Fossey trek will take you to the graves of the late famous American zoologist – Dian Fossey who was murdered while on her research about Gorillas and other primates in Park des Volcans. Volcanoes NP was the pedestal for the famous naturalist Dian Fossey who carried out her research into the gorillas. She arrived in 1967 and established the Karisoke Research Centre between Karisimbi and Visoke. Since then, she spent most of her time in the park.  She is significantly credited for saving the gorillas from extinction by passing on their quandary to the notice of the international community. She was murdered by an unknown assailants at her home in 1985, a crime often attributed to the poachers she had spent her life fighting against. Dian Fossey’s vitality research was later revealed in the movie Gorillas in the Mist, marked after her memoirs. She was buried in the volcanoes National park in a grave close to her research center amongst the gorillas which became her life.

You must choose only one   of the treks on this day because both of them begin in the morning. After you will return to the lodge for your lunch, dinner and overnight or if your flight tomorrow is early then we will transfer you to Kigali
